North Lawn, along 94th street
Celebrated in the autumn each year, on the 15th of Tishrei on the Hebrew calendar, Sukkot (Hebrew for "booths") is a celebration of the harvest. It has also come to commemorate the 40 years Jews spent wandering in the desert after receiving the gift of the Torah. During the weeklong festival, Jewish families eat, entertain, and sometimes even sleep in a temporary outdoor shelter known as a "sukkah," or booth. It is a time of connection with the creator, the earth, and community. Join us on Friday, October 18, starting at 5:30 PM for activities, traditional prayers, and pizza. You are invited to bring a side dish or dessert to share. This is an ecumenical and interfaith event. The sukkah will be up for the duration of the festival, October 16-23. Come and spend some time outdoors in creation!
